Granite Way viaduct closure - 11 November - 1 December inclusive 2024
Dear Granite Way Neighbour
This autumn Meldon Viaduct will be temporarily closed for approximately three weeks to enable significant refurbishment to the running surface on the viaduct used by the public visiting the Granite Way. The non-slip boards that are on top of the structural timbers have served us well for the last 25 years, but as you are probably aware they are now very worn, requiring frequent maintenance and are therefore due for replacement.
With regards to timing, we are trying to minimise the disruption to the public by avoiding the holidays, and the late autumn and winter weather which is likely to be a significant risk to our contractors working in such an exposed location.
The intention of this letter drop is to inform you and other businesses along the trail of the key dates. We would be grateful if you could share this information with your customers and other users of the Granite Way. We will be putting up advanced notice signs (at least 20 at key locations on the Granite way and other parts of the Devon coast to coast trail), issuing press releases and making some social media announcements.
Unfortunately, there is no alternative off-road route that avoids the viaduct, hence the number of signs to forewarn users. For walkers, the public footpaths under the viaduct will still be open.
